This is somewhat of an obligatory post I have to say. Most of you already know how I feel about traditional American holidays which is kind o funny as technically I’m an American (sshh don’t tell). My country as most when becoming independent took land from it’s rightful natives in doing so. Some of that blood still flows in my veins, being Welsh/Irish/Souix I have mixed feelings about Independence Day.
At the time I’m sure seceding from the English rule seemed like a good idea. Certainly every country has it’s issues how could they not they’re run by humans. Something I’ve learned over my travels that the perception o Americans is very skewed. There is a huge difference between America and Americans. I’m proud to be an American our founding fathers had it right and our original Deceleration of Independence had it right and I will always support our commander and chief as it my duty to do so but that does not mean that I’m proud of what the government of my country has done over the past 238 years. I will however finish with a few words that I believe are very important in all societies. “Let freedom ring” for all people in all the lands. Men, women and children of every race and religion. I do believe that the freedom to choose is a fundamental right no matter where one lives. Yes I live in America but at my core I am a free citizen of our planet.
“We are free, truly free, when we don’t need to rent our arms to anybody in order to be able to lift a piece of bread to our mouths.” ~Ricardo Flores Magon, speech, 31 May 1914
Happy Fourth of July ~ Let freedom ring.
